1. Martin and Irène define their inexplicable friendship on synchronicity – a theory posited by Carl Jung that nothing is random, but a series of connected events. What are your thoughts on Martin and Irène's platonic love for each other?
2. Martin's former boyfriend, David, ended their relationship because he was afraid to come out to his family. Could you identify or have you known someone with David's fear of dealing with their sexuality?
3. The two detectives in the novel – V. Hugo and Bernard Sullivan – are radically different in their approach to solving crime.
